Energiesprong France is redefining the housing sector by making net zero homes the new standard—beautiful, powerful, radical, and real.

With a focus on off-site insulation, biobased materials, and climate adaptation, the team utilises France’s forestry and agricultural strengths while addressing the challenge of renewable energy to accelerate sustainable transformation. The Energiesprong movement in France is driven by Ressorts — an incubator for projects that accelerate the housing transition.

Goals and APPROACH

Since 2018, Energiesprong France has been building a strong community of pioneers—social housing providers, construction companies, financiers, and public sector partners—committed to scaling net zero retrofits and new builds. By demonstrating successful projects on a small scale, the French market development team (MDT) has proven that deep energy renovation can be both ambitious and achievable.

The country’s diverse climates and architectural styles require a regional approach. The MDT actively supports collective buy-in schemes to streamline procurement, drive affordability, and enhance efficiency. Standardised solutions, open-source technical and financial innovations, and close collaboration between housing providers and solution developers are key to accelerating the market.

Despite challenges such as limited national funding for market development teams and slow renewable energy adoption, Energiesprong France continues to push boundaries. By making net zero renovations quick, financeable, and desirable, the team is shaping a future where sustainable, high-quality housing becomes the norm across the country.
