Catalysing outcome-led home retrofit at scale

Energiesprong UK is a team of independent retrofit experts that collaborates with partners to create new approaches for home energy refurbishment at scale. Its mission is for every UK home to be desirable, comfortable, affordable and fit for 2050 net-zero standards.

Goals and APPROACH
Inspired and informed by a decade of testing the Dutch Energiesprong (“Energy Leap”) model in the UK market, Energiesprong UK champions outcome-led retrofit.
This means creating homes that look great, perform in-line with their net-zero targets and result in comfortable tenants who can afford their energy bills.
To achieve this, it works with local authorities, housing providers, building firms and the supply chain to:
-
develop and test innovative outcome-led retrofit strategies, models and tools
-
aid the delivery of innovative schemes to upgrade homes, and;
-
inspire sector change by showcasing real-life examples of transformation.
ESUK’s vision is a retrofit industry that’s modernised and collaborative – offering high-quality retrofits with verified, real-world performance and a strong financial case for stakeholders.

Energiesprong UK has helped pioneer outcome-led retrofit in the UK, including
-
supporting the delivery of 400 deep retrofits with social landlords
-
helping UK manufacturers to bring 8 new innovative retrofit solutions into homes
-
leading multi-stakeholder projects designed to unlock retrofit at scale including Mayor of London’s Retrofit Accelerator - Homes Innovation Partnership and Mustbe0.
Using the learning from this work, ESUK’s focus is now on tackling the multiple, systemic challenges preventing scale in the UK retrofit market. This includes:
-
Transform-ER: an Innovate UK funded, consortium-led project that’s tackling retrofit’s biggest barriers to scale - enabling one million home upgrades every year by 2030.
-
Heat Pump Ready Archetypes: A DESNZ-funded project led by RJ Barwick and Energiesprong UK is focusing on what’s needed to scale up roll-out of heat pumps in non-traditional archetypes, both with and without fabric.
-
Heat Pump Ready Comfort Plan: A DESNZ-funded project to develop and test the technical solutions needed for an integrated ‘comfort and billing service’ for net-zero retrofit.
-
Zero Carbon Accelerator: Supporting the delivery of the Mayor of London’s Zero Carbon Accelerator, a new programme that will transform the organisations’ ability to decarbonise and meet London’s net zero target by 2030.
