The LIFE Giga Regio Factory project: Scaling affordable zero-energy renovations through industrialisation

The LIFE Giga Regio Factory is a 2.4 million euro project co-financed by the European Commission under the LIFE programme. It follows up Energiesprong, aiming to upscale the market of industrialised zero-energy guaranteed renovations by supporting all the players involved in the process, from building owners to manufacturers and construction companies.

The LIFE Giga Regio Factory project aims to activate the next stages in the industrialisation of deep renovation in France and the rest of Europe by tooling both supply and demand players, helping them to organise themselves to launch highvolume orders and develop the appropriate production capacity.

The project is a complementary consortium of 13 partners from Italy, Belgium, Germany and France.

Three areas of work have been developed to massify industrialised, deep renovation:

• On the demand side:

  To generate more volume, it is necessary to better qualify the different types of dwellings in relation to the different industrial renovation solutions available on the market or upcoming. The project will therefore develop a tool for more detailed aggregation of buildings, facilitating grouped orders for serial deep renovations European regions. The aim is to facilitate the emergence of a massified demand for industrialized solutions.

  
  

• On the supply side:

  We need to support companies in the development of their industrialised, deep renovation solutions. The aim is to encourage the growth of the industrial approach in the building sector by supporting the supply side in the integration of industrial solutions and in the development of their catalog of solutions through coaching, feedback and the provision of resources. In this way, the project aims to stimulate market evolution for deep renovations in several.

  
  

• Production capacity

  Finally, it is necessary to develop the production capacities of manufacturers and suppliers of off-site renovation solutions. The project aims to support them in the next stages of their development: business planning and investment, production capacity expansion, cost reduction, etc. The aim is to help manufacturers and solution providers scale up to meet future massive demand. The aim is to facilitate the emergence of a massified demand for industrialised solutions in European regions.

Key stakeholders

Housing organisations - Better qualify housing typologies and support them in aggregating grouped renovation purchases.

Construction companies - Support them with a dedicated course and intensive coaching to develop catalogs of dedicated solutions & products.

Manufacturers - Tooling off-site manufacturers to develop industrial-scale production capacities to meet massified demand.
